Real Helix Server 10 - Connected

HELIX Servers CONNECTED line

CONNECTED servers are designed for large distributed deployments where content is pushed or pulled through a network of servers until it reaches the enduser.

As digital media becomes more pervasive and strategic at your organization, you will want to start taking advantage of some of the advanced features associated with deploying multiple Helix™ Servers. Connected servers offer a wide variety of advanced features that are not available with discrete servers.

CONNECTED servers enable you to reduce hardware costs associated with large deployments by serving all three major media servers over one delivery infrastructure.

CONNECTED SERVER, the right solution for

  • Service Providers
  • Organizations wanting to build out distributed digital media infrastructure for delivering content to internal or external audiences

Criteria for Identifying the Right Server:

  • Do you plan to build out a distributed network of servers where content is delivered from a central server to end-users via a network of servers?
  • What does your network topology look like? How many tiers are there?

Helix Universal Server - ADVANCED
Typically placed in a data center and are the point of origin for the entire network. Live encoders connect directly to advanced servers for live broadcasts and on-demand content is placed on these servers for distribution to downstream servers. Functionality-wise, advanced servers are configured as content publishers to support pull and push content distribution. Advanced servers play the most important role in the network and deliver the most value.

Helix Universal Server - EDGE
Delivers the content directly to the enduser. When the enduser clicks on a URL, they are directed to these servers. Edge servers are usually placed geographically as close to the end-user as possible so as to minimize bandwidth consumption across the network. Functionality-wise, these servers are configured as content subscribers. They request or receive content from upstream servers.

Helix Universal Server - RELAY
Also known as transmitters or receivers, these servers are placed in the network and scale content distribution by transmitting content from an upstream origin server to downstream edge servers. Depending on your network topology, you could set up a distributed network without servers acting as relays.
